岩手の工房と琉球藍
沖縄にルーツを持つ母親の仕事を引き継いでやってきた岩手県奥州市。
妻の出身地という繋がりで移り住んだ土地は、四季の移ろいを肌で感じられる場所でした。 動物の気配や小鳥のさえずりが賑やかな山々、その合間を縫って流れる清らかな川、その水を張って鏡のように空を映す田園風景。ここには無理なく自然と調和した美しい暮らしがあります。
母が染色に使っていた琉球藍は沖縄の北部に畑があり、刈り取った葉を水に漬けて色素を抽出し、丁寧に雑味を取り除く沈殿藍製法という独特の作り方が大事に守られています。
岩手の湧き水で建てた琉球藍で染め、山間を吹き抜ける優しい風に染め物がなびくのを眺めていると、土や水や空気全部を吸い込んだ作品だと感じます。
岩手に越してきてから数年後の２０１２年に妻と二人で開業し、その後、弟夫婦と兄も加わり家族で営む「琉球藍染工房」を設立しました。 ブランドネームは「ryukyu i」 iの文字に「藍」と一人称の意味を込めて、自分を認識し、自分らしさを表現する「一人称の藍染」でありたいと思います。
Ryukyu indigo dyeing workshop in the mountains of Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture where calm time flows. Using spring water from the mountains, we produce fashion items and interior fabrics that can be enjoyed by all generations with the concept of "indigo dyeing that gently blends into your current life" in Ryukyu indigo nurtured in the northern part of Okinawa Prefecture.
Items dyed in the workshop are sold at events all over the country, as well as at the shop in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture, where the textile industry is thriving.
